Background
From Rabbi Loew to Franz Kafka, from forgotten synagogues of the countryside to the world-famous ones in Prague, the Czech Republic is uniquely full of Jewish life despite the hurdles it faced. More importantly, that special spark of an active community has only continued to grow throughout the years, and integrate itself into the very fiber of Czech history and culture. In recent years, alongside the growth of the local and expat Jewish community, Czech Republic and Israel have been deepening their diplomatic relations and bringing the fruits of successful cooperation to both nations.
The result of this cooperation long lasting support of one another should stand as an example, and set a precedent for the future of European-Israeli relations.
The Czech Republic & Israel - An Unprecedented Friendship
The Czech Republic has continued to stand alongside Israel, uniquely across the entire political spectrum, for over 100 years. Even though public support was interrupted by the Nazi and Communist regimes, discussions and empathy continued behind closed doors. This tradition, of support, was not made by chance, but based on a deep understanding and sympathy for Israel by the Czech public, which stems from their own history and values. Czechia has made the decision to tirelessly support Israel in its darkest hour not only politically but also in spirit- unanimously agreeing to move the embassy to Jerusalem following the atrocious events of October 7th, the flying of the Israeli flags from public buildings, and a constant stream of well-wishes and support from individuals both in online and offline spaces.
The relationship goes beyond simple one-sided support, but has seen immense growth in joint initiatives related to politics, military, education, and culture, meant to grow and enrich both sides. Just in recent years, the Czech Republic has collaborated with Israel on innovation days, culture festivals and events, academic research and exchange programs, and the strengthening of the Czech security on ground and cyberspaces through Israeli innovations.

This alliance, the culture mesh it creates, and the utilization of cross-cultural innovation goes on to show what amazing results countries can get from cooperation and understanding. Many Czechs and Israelis live their day-to-day lives enjoying the outcomes of this collaboration without. Prosperity grows where cooperation is valued, and Czechia and its people understand and share this value and vision with Israel. At Shalem, we want to put this into perspective, and bring it closer to everyone’s own life and how they, and Czechia, may use it to their advantage and support.

Our events, content, and network is made up of all individuals and communities that wish to have their voice heard- from local Jewish Federation, JCC, commercial organizations, parliament and government members, Czech & Israeli initiatives, to the average Czech and/or Israeli individual. Thanks to the variety, we can make sure that the conversations and impact we’re making at Shalem will be sincere and felt throughout.
