We would like to update you about another project that materialised with your generous help.
Together with Rabbi Klain from Haifa's Home for Lonely Soldiers, Shalem sponsored 43 children studying for their bar/bat mitzvah. These are children whose fathers are currently serving in the reserves or recovering from severe injuries. Bar mitzvah for boys and bat mitzvah for girls are life changing milestones defining their Jewish identity. Sadly, these children's fathers cannot be part of this meaningful process as they're absent. Secondly, families whose children we chose to support are going through financial hardships not allowing them to attend to their children or treat them for something special, usually a trip.
Rabbi Klain runs a project allowing these children to prepare for bar and bat mitzvah in a company of their peers in similar life situations. Thanks to Rabbi's army of volunteers, the education is provided for free, our assistance allows the children to embark on trips around Israel that provide them with meaningful insights related to their learning and much needed relief from their day-to-day reality. With your help the Home for Lonely Soldiers is also able to host a small family gathering to celebrate the children bar/bat mitzvah after they complete their studies.
